Royal College of Art 卒業研究で作成したベットルームランプ。
先端に配置されたハロゲン電球が発する熱から生まれる微弱な上昇気流を鳥の羽でキャッチして上昇下降を繰り返す。電球、羽の距離の違いから生まれる「羽の影」が天井に映し出されることで、寝ている人があたかも空に浮かんでいるかのように感じさせ豊かな眠りに誘われます。

A bedside lamp created as part of my graduation project at the Royal College of Art. A feather captures the gentle updraft generated by the heat from a halogen bulb positioned at the tip, causing it to rise and fall continuously. As the distance between the bulb and the feather changes, the feather’s shifting shadow is projected onto the ceiling. This creates the sensation of floating in the sky, gently guiding the person lying beneath it into a peaceful and restful sleep.

Royal College of Artを卒業するにあたり、卒業研究として日本人が持っている独特の美意識を作品を通して表現を試みた２作品の一つ。この作品は日本人の美意識「儚さ」を作品を通して表現した。
This is one of two works created for my graduation project at the Royal College of Art, through which I sought to express the distinctive aesthetic sensibilities of the Japanese people. This particular work explores the Japanese aesthetic concept of hakanasa—the beauty of transience and impermanence.

Prosess;
「儚さ」を具現化するために様々なメディア、素材、動きを試作化、最終的に目に見えない空気の対流を視覚化することで、表現の方向性を決める事ができた。
To embody the concept of hakanasa—the beauty of transience—I experimented with various media, materials, and forms of movement. Ultimately, visualising the invisible convection of air enabled me to establish the final direction of the work.

作品は卒業後ニューヨーク近代美術館主催の「Mutant Material in Contemporary Design」で出展され世界中で展示されました。その時ニューヨークタイムズ誌で紹介された記事。
After my graduation, the work was selected for Mutant Materials in Contemporary Design, an exhibition organised by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, and was subsequently exhibited around the world. The following is an excerpt from an article published in The New York Times:

”石黒猛がデザインした幻想的なランプ「Light Light」。細いカーボンロッドの先端でバランスを保つ磁器製の光のカップは、浮かぶ白い羽根を用いて、光だけでなく華やかさ（panache）までも反射します。”
“to the ethereal “Light Light” lamp, designed by Takeshi Ishiguro. A porcelain cup of radiance, balanced on the tip of a slim carbon rod, the lamp uses a floating white feather to reflect panache as well as light.”
